Fashion. Flair. Frankfurt!

The alliteration is easy on the tongue. From July 6 to 8, 2021, it will become a reality: Fashion Week is moving to Frankfurt. After around 20 years in Berlin, the fair will be held in Frankfurt in Hessen for the first time, with an accompanying program of events and conferences throughout the city.

Frankfurt is the perfect location for Fashion Week, said organizer Anita Tillmann. She believes that the fair will benefit from the different local subcultures in this dynamic city on the River Main and will be a vibrant source of vitality. Detlef Braun, Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt, is planning five platforms, three trade fairs, two conferences, and over 2,000 designers, brands and fashion companies: “Frankfurt Fashion Week is becoming a highly attractive and relevant location for the international fashion business. We believe in the concept of a physical fashion week.” The tradeshows, conferences, runways and events will take place in different corners of the city, based on the two pillars of digitization and sustainability.

Dr. Rainer Waldschmidt, Managing Director of Hessen Trade & Invest, welcomes the decision to hold the fair in Frankfurt, the hidden champion of the fashion industry: “The event fits perfectly with what is already a very strong and innovative cultural and creative sector in Hessen. Around 20,500 companies turn over a good €14.2 billion annually. This is where the cornerstone is laid for innovations that have an impact far beyond the creative sector. The design industry, which includes fashion design, has a turnover of around €1.9 billion. We are pleased that the lively creative scene in Hessen is moving further into the international spotlight!”

The organizers are aiming to make Fashion Week more international. They are expecting 140,000 visitors from 100 countries for the first fashion fair on the River Main. For Hessen’s Minister of Economy Tarek Al-Wazir, choosing Frankfurt as the location is the right decision. “The Rhine-Main region is the perfect place to host an event of international importance. Because the local population is cosmopolitan and international: 6.2 million people live in Hessen, a third of whom have roots in other countries and see Hessen as their home. And fashion is just as colorful and individual.” The future Frankfurt Fashion Week also holds economic importance for Frankfurt as a trade fair location. “This is an important and positive signal for an industry shaken by the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic”, he said.

Frankfurt Mayor Peter Feldmann is also very happy: “This makes the economic center of Frankfurt a new hotspot on the fashion and lifestyle scene and an important hub for international fashion.” It will also provide stimulus for the hotel, catering and transport sectors. The mayor confirms that it is worth over €200 million per year for the city and the region.

Frankfurt Fashion Week shared more details on http://www.frankfurt.fashion/en: “Frankfurt am Main will become the new metropolis for the global fashion and lifestyle community. As an international hub in the heart of Europe, influences from all over the world define the spirit of the city. With the topics of applied sustainability and digitization, Frankfurt Fashion Week is a source of inspiration for everyone who loves fashion, celebrates fashion and wants to change fashion.”

See you in Frankfurt!
