The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is one of the world’s leading trade fairs in the field of mobile communications. The trade fair, which took place initially in 1987, was able to continue its expansion of recent years in 2017 as well. For the first time, it recorded 2,300 exhibitors and over 108,000 visitors from more than 208 countries in 2017. In addition, many interesting events are offered parallel to the trade fair.

Spain’s economy is visibly recovering from the effects of the 2008 crisis, which led to many radical changes and a reorganization of the Spanish information and communication sector. The latest economic data shows a clear improvement of Spain’s economic situation. After a 3.2% growth in the gross domestic product in 2016, the forecasts for 2017 are assuming the gross domestic product to grow 2.4%.

Nonetheless, small- and medium-sized companies, in particular, still need to do a lot with regard to digital transformation. Projects are promoted as part of the "Digital Agenda" (2017: 117.5 million euros). The "Networked Industry 4.0" government initiative supports companies with urgently needed strategies, initiatives and activities. Thus, Spain offers interesting opportunities for Hessian companies in this field.

As the world’s leading trade fair, the MWC additionally offers the opportunity to make business contacts at the international level. The international market in the information and communication field continues to grow. By being present at the MWC, Hessian companies can show their products to an international specialized audience in order to take part in the further growth of the world market. Moreover, they can obtain first-hand information about the latest developments.
