Dear Readers,

In recent months, Hessen has seen considerable activity in manufacturing, logistics, and defense technology. Companies are investing in new production at long-established sites, expanding logistics networks, and building up hubs for business and industry innovation.

We’d like to highlight the following stories:

The European Commission approved €400 million in state aid for Sanofi’s new €1.3 billion insulin plant in Frankfurt-Höchst. The site is the only one in the European Economic Area that produces human insulin.

Defense company Rheinmetall and the State of Hessen have agreed to develop Kassel and nearby Kassel Airport in North Hessen into a hub for modern defense technology. Rheinmetall plans to invest more than €260 million there, with more than 1,000 new jobs expected over the long term.

Mitsubishi Polyester Film began production at a new €125 million facility at its Wiesbaden site, boosting annual output by roughly 50% to 75,000 metric tons. The move underscores the company’s long-term commitment to Hessen as a manufacturing base.

Shipping and logistics group Maersk leased a new distribution center near Bad Hersfeld to extend its footprint in Germany – a move that will create almost 1,000 jobs. Panattoni developed the modern space to DGNB sustainability standards.

Right next to Frankfurt Airport, Gateway Gardens has grown from a former US military housing complex into a green business district that is home to more than 150 international companies. HTAI visited two of them, US caterer Aramark and Swedish medical technology company Getinge, to see what the location offers.

We hope these highlights give you a useful picture of recent developments in Hessen. If you’d like to explore what our state could offer your business, please get in touch.
